Scripture:  Exodus 3:3-4 (NLT)

"Amazing!" Moses said to himself. "Why isn't that bush burning up? I must go over to see this."

When the Lord saw that he had caught Moses' attention, God called to him from the bush, "Moses! Moses!"

"Here I am!" Moses replied.

Thoughts:

This is a great example of how God is a gentleman.  He will not force us into service.  He put something out to see if Moses would respond.  It wasn’t until Moses turned that God spoke.  Do you think that we ever miss God because we are looking for a burning bush?  Matthew 10:27 says that we are to be listening for a whisper.

My Dad was a mechanic for many years before he retired.  I have many, many great memories of working on our vehicles with him.  Getting greasy under the hood with my Dad is still one of my favorite things to do.  After years of practice, my Dad has the ability to discern the smallest sound in a car and then the knowledge to decide what it means.  If any of you know my father, you know that this ability is not because he has super hearing. In fact, like many men, he has been accused of having selective hearing.  He has developed this talent through years of practice.

Even though God may well use a “burning bush” to get your attention, He is far more likely to gently whisper in your ear.  Just because He may whisper to us, it does not mean that is any less important or powerful.  I have seen life changing events happen from a “holy nudge”.

Spend time with our Lord and ask His help is learning to listen.  When He does, turn aside, listen and follow His direction.

Prayer

Amazing and Glorious God, I am so thankful that You are still ready to speak to me.  Please help me develop an ear to hear, wisdom to discern and the courage to follow Your “holy nudges”.

Your brother in Christ,

Doug
